Freedom to Explore…

What began as an idea to share advice on protecting against vector-borne diseases has transformed into a huge nationwide travel health awareness campaign – known as Bug Off!

The Bug Off! campaign has reached a global audience of 25 million since its inception. We have had over 25,000 conversations with families, young people, holidaymakers, healthcare workers, industry representatives – all united by an interest in staying safe whilst travelling abroad. Bug Off! has received coverage across more than 40 different media outlets in the past 3 years.

Bug Off

What is the Bug Off! campaign?

ARCTEC’s expert team of entomologists travel the length and breadth of the UK, inviting members of the public to try our bug-friendly experiments, tackle some common mosquito misconceptions, and most importantly, take away free travel health advice.

Our engaging displays and games teach about mosquito physiology, behaviour and habitats, making the latest scientific research on vector-borne disease accessible to everyone.

We’re proud to have inspired countless families to better protect themselves from biting insects, and educated hundreds of travellers about the importance of using repellents when visiting tropical countries, but the buzz doesn’t stop there.

Look out for more fun-filled informative activities and stunts (plus live mosquitoes) in 2019 at summer street events, bustling city centres, science festivals and schools.

Get in touch today if you would like the Bug Off! team to come to your event, or if you would like to be part of one of our upcoming Bug Off! events – email arctec@lshtm.ac.uk
